Duration

Full-time, one-year course running from September to May.

Course Description

The aim of this programme is to enable learners to acquire the knowledge, skills and competence required to safely use a range of techniques and processes to solve engineering-related challenges.

The course prepares learners for further or higher education, apprenticeships and employment within engineering and other technical industries.

A well-equipped engineering workshop is available on campus. Learners will be guided and supported by an experienced teacher as they develop the practical skills required to pursue a career in this area. The course has a strong focus on hands-on practical learning.

Entry Requirements

Leaving Certificate, Leaving Certificate Applied, LCVP or QQI Level 4 Award.

Equal consideration will be given to mature applicants, aged over 23, who do not meet these entry requirements.

Progression Opportunities

On completion of this programme, learners will have developed the skills, knowledge and competencies required to safely use a range of engineering techniques and processes.

Graduates may progress to further or higher education through the Higher Education Links Scheme or pursue employment in a supervised engineering workplace environment.

Students are also well prepared to apply for apprenticeships in areas such as:

  • Engineering
  • Motor and automotive industries
  • Bus and transport maintenance
  • Aircraft engineering
  • Other technical industries

Graduates are eligible to apply through the CAO and the Higher Education Links Scheme for entry to the first year of a range of higher certificate and degree programmes at technological universities and universities.

  • QQI Examination Fee: €50

Medical Card holders and BTEI students are exempt from the QQI examination fee.
